Redruth Young Men’s Bible Class outing

April 9, 2018 by Susan Roberts Leave a Comment

The Young Men’s Bible Class at Redruth Wesleyan Chapel was a very important part of life in the town before World War One.  Hundreds of young men attended weekly and after war broke out in 1914, at least 150 signed up.

Many wrote back to the man who led the class, Harry Rich, a local mining entrepreneur. Click here and here for examples of letters.

The well-known local historian, the late Paddy Bradley of Redruth, collected many photographs and albums about the Bible Class. This photo above from his collection has been tinted by the Cornish Studies Library. For another picture of one of the group’s annual outings, click here.
