Thankful Villages

September 10, 2015 by Susan Roberts Leave a Comment

Mentioned in our Education Pack are ‘Thankful Villages’.

These were villages where every man who went off to fight in the war returned home alive.

It is believed that there are only 41 Thankful Villages in the UK and the only one in Cornwall is thought to be Herodsfoot. These village have no War Memorial because no lives were lost. But most have some kind of Memorial plaque or monument, often in the local chapel or church, giving thanks for the safe return of their soldiers.
