Recipe for an invalid

April 6, 2018 by Susan Roberts Leave a Comment

Books dating from World War One can seem from another world. This Home Cookery book has recipes for brain cakes and baked lettuce. It was no doubt a useful tool though for a woman at home, trying to make the most of very limited supplies and perhaps catering for a wounded soldier.

As the introduction here says rather chillingly: ‘There are few homes today in Great Britain where there’s not an invalid”.
