Percy John Matta – the fate of a Cornish miner

April 6, 2023 by Susan Roberts Leave a Comment

A brilliant piece of research by Eric Edwards on his impressive blog about the Canadian Expeditionary Force 18th Battalion. He writes here about Percy John Matta, originally from the St Austell area, who survived the war but died, tragically, in Ballarat, Australia. It’s an extraordinary story. All credit to Eric for uncovering it.

The Fate of a Cornish Miner

We have written about Josiah Mitchell, a Cornishman from Townshend, west Cornwall, who joined the 18th Battalion later in the war, but was killed in action.
